HyWay 27The vision on hydrogen recently published by the government set out an ambitious policy agenda for developing the sustainable hydrogen supply chain. With cost-efficiency in mind, a key assumption is that the existing natural gas infrastructure will be reused (in phases) for the transport of hydrogen where possible. With the HyWay 27 study, together with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, are mapping out how and under which conditions the existing gas grid can be used to transport hydrogen in the future.

Spain vies to lead EU in green hydrogen. With an abundance of sun and wind, Spain is positioning itself as Europe’s future leader in green hydrogen production to clean up heavy industries. But some energy sector experts express caution over ramping up an industry that would be wholly reliant on massive increases in the availability of zero-carbon electricity. Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera hosted a major conference earlier this month for global renewable energy players.

Major hydrogen corridors to pass through Southeastern EuropeAll six supply corridors outlined by the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance would be connected directly or indirectly to Germany. One major route is through Southeastern Europe while Slovenia and Croatia could also benefit from two other corridors. The European Commission’s REPowerEU plan to eliminate the demand for fossil fuels from Russia includes a chapter on the necessary acceleration of hydrogen infrastructure development.

The Netherlands renewable hydrogen plan gets green light from the European CommissionA €246 million Dutch plan to support renewable hydrogen production and the construction of a minimum 60 megawatt (MW) electrolysis capacity in the Netherlands, has been approved by the European Commission (EC). The goal of the Netherlands renewable hydrogen plan is to contribute to the development of green hydrogen in line with goals that have already been set by the EU.

The Netherlands exceeds the 2023 offshore wind targetThe Netherlands will exceed the target set in its Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap 2023 this year. The country's first offshore wind roadmap follows the Dutch Energy Agreement signed ten years ago. It sets the goal of 4.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity by the end of 2023. However, the Netherlands is on its way to having 4.7 GW up and running by December 2023. The collaborative environment that the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has created plays a vital role in reaching the 4.5 GW target, bringing public and private parties together.
